To set up AfterNorth Email on your iPhone using IMAP with SSL, follow these steps:
- Open Settings
- Locate and tap the Settings app on your iPhone home screen (it’s the gear icon).
- Navigate to Mail
- Scroll down and tap Apps.
- Tap Mail.
- Tap Mail Accounts.
- Add an Account
- Tap Add Account.
- Tap Other.
- Select Add Mail Account
- Tap Add Mail Account under the “Other” section.
- Enter Account Details
- Name: Enter your name as you want it to appear in sent emails.
- Email: Type your full email address (e.g., yourname@yourdomain.com).
- Password: Enter the password for your email account.
- Description: Add a name to identify the account (e.g., “Work Email”).
- Tap Next.
- Choose IMAP
- Select IMAP
- Enter Server Settings
- If the iPhone doesn’t automatically detect the settings, you’ll need to enter them manually:
- Incoming Mail Server
- Host Name: mail.afternorth.com
- Username: Enter your full email address or the username provided.
- Password: Re-enter your email password.
- Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP)
- Host Name: mail.afternorth.com
- Username: Enter your full email address or username (not optional, despite the label).
- Password: Enter your password (not optional).
- Incoming Mail Server
- Tap Next. The iPhone will verify the settings.
- If the iPhone doesn’t automatically detect the settings, you’ll need to enter them manually:
- Troubleshooting Verification
- If verification fails, double-check your server names, username, and password.
- If you see “Cannot Connect Using SSL,” verify the ports are set as follows:
- IMAP: 993 (with SSL).
- SMTP: 465 (with SSL).
- Save and Sync
- If settings are correct, tap Save.
- Choose to sync Mail
- Tap Save again.
- Check Your Email
- Return to the home screen by swiping up or pressing the Home button.
- Open the Mail app.
- Select the new account if you have multiple. It may take a few minutes to sync emails, especially for large mailboxes.
- Advanced Settings (Optional)
- Go back to Settings > Apps > Mail > Mail Accounts.
- Tap the new account, then tap Account.
- Tap SMTP to adjust the outgoing server:
- Under “PRIMARY SERVER,” ensure the server is on and check “Use SSL” (recommended for security).
- Confirm the port (e.g., 465 or in some cases 587).
- Tap Done to verify and save.
Note: Ensure that SMTP authentication is set as it is not enabled by default.
Your iPhone should now be set up to send and receive emails using the IMAP server with SSL.
