To set up an IMAP account on Outlook for Mac using SSL, follow these steps:
- Open Outlook for Mac.
- Click on Outlook in the top menu bar.
- Select Preferences from the dropdown menu.
- In the Preferences window, click on Accounts.
- Click on the "+" button at the bottom left of the Accounts window.
- Select New Account.
- In the "Add an Account" window, enter your email address (e.g., yourname@afternorth.com) and click Continue.
- If Outlook tries to automatically configure the account and fails, or if you prefer manual setup, click Not Google? at the bottom.
- Select IMAP/POP from the options provided.
- Enter the following information:
- Email Address: yourname@afternorth.com
- Username: {Your email address}
- Password: {Your Password}
- Incoming Mail Server Settings (IMAP):
- IMAP server: mail.afternorth.com
- IMAP port: 993
- Use SSL to connect: Check the box (ensure SSL/TLS is selected)
- Outgoing Mail Server Settings (SMTP):
- SMTP server: mail.afternorth.com
- SMTP port: 465 or 587 (465 is standard for SSL, 587 can also be used with STARTTLS)
- Use SSL to connect: Check the box (ensure SSL/TLS is selected)
- Username: {Your email address}
- Password: {Your Password}
- In the "Outgoing server" section, make sure Override default port and Use SSL to connect are checked.
- Click Add Account or Done to complete the setup process.
- After adding the account, Outlook will attempt to connect to the server. If everything is set up correctly, your emails will start syncing.
- If there are any errors, double-check the server addresses, ports, and SSL settings.
Outlook should now be set up and working properly with the IMAP server.
